I don't use mechanics for anything but tires, alignments and state inspection. I went to Carolina car care last week to get my 1984 Benz inspected. First place I ever went that actually does a safety inspection. It took about a half hour but hey, they really did look at the car. The service writers were nice as could be and I had a great time talking with them while the tech inspected my old diesel. I also heard them interacting with other customers and as a mechanic and technician I can tell you they were being honest and we're not trying to upsell for no reason.
